The terrain in southern Spain is more mountainous than most visitors expect. The coastal sierras rise steeply from the Mediterranean, providing constant elevation changes and satisfying technical riding within easy reach of the coast. Daily distances can be as short or as long as the itinerary demands, and the compact geography of Andalucía means you can ride spectacular mountain roads in the morning and be back at a beachside hotel by late afternoon.

Traffic is light outside the main cities and coastal strips, particularly on the secondary roads through the mountains and agricultural interior. The pace of life in rural Spain encourages unhurried riding — there’s always time to stop at a village bar for a coffee, and nobody is in any rush.

Summer — June to August — brings intense heat in the interior, though coastal areas benefit from sea breezes and the mountains remain pleasant.
