Lovely Loire: Short Break

Fancy a relaxing ride along the roads of Northern France? Nothing too challenging, just some beautiful scenery, great food and good wine, and fabulous places to stay along the way. 

Taking in Angers, you’ll be enchanted by the scenery along the Loire and the changing colours of the sky reflecting off the water. No better place to enjoy a chilled glass of something as you reflect on your relaxing ride of the day. 

Angers sits in the heart of the Loire Valley and is famed for its 75m spires of the gothic Cathedral St Maurice. Did you know it is also home to the orange liqueur, Cointreau, so your after dinner tipple is sorted.

Next day we will head to Chartres, where you’ll be amazed by the incredible ‘Chartres en Lumineres’ during the evening. More than twenty heritage sites in this historic city  are illuminated to take you on a colourful journey through time and space.

We then have another serene day of riding you will then arrive in the picturesque town of Honfleur, Normandy. You can soak up the ambiance here, and you’ll get a feel for why this medieval town attracted writers, musicians and painters over the centuries. 

The sound of the hypnotic bells from the local churches vying with the habourside yachts at the end of the harbour will remain with you when you think back to this memorable break. 

Relax and sit back in the seat, our mileage will average about 150 miles per day, bringing us back along to the Port of Caen, where you will await your  late afternoon crossing back to Portsmouth.
