Fresh from an early LeShuttle crossing, the transition into France motorcycle riding is immediate. Fast northern roads give way to the rolling sweep of the Ardennes, where dense forest and flowing curves introduce the rhythm of motorcycle touring France. The day ends in a striking medieval fortress, setting a powerful tone for a journey that blends immersive riding with unforgettable locations.
Turning south, the route leaves main roads behind and dives into the real heart of France. Quiet D roads carve through farmland and timeless villages, delivering pure scenic motorbike routes where the ride becomes fluid and uninterrupted. Bourges awaits, a historic centrepiece of France motorcycle touring, where half timbered houses and its UNESCO cathedral bring depth and contrast to a day defined by elegant, flowing miles.
The journey continues deeper into rural France, where the roads tighten and the landscape shifts. Forests and lakes of the Livradois Forez National Park introduce elevation, cooler air and more technical sections. This is France motorcycle adventure riding at its most authentic, ending in Mende, a peaceful town nestled within the Lot valley and surrounded by mountain contours that echo the day’s riding.
Heading southwest, the terrain becomes dramatic. The road into the Gorges du Tarn delivers one of the most iconic stretches of motorcycle touring in France, with sheer rock walls, narrow passages, tunnels and overhangs creating an intense and unforgettable riding experience. The scale builds toward the Millau Viaduct, a breathtaking highlight, before rolling onward to Carcassonne, where medieval fortifications rise in spectacular fashion against the southern skyline.
Carcassonne introduces a different pace. This fortified city, one of Europe’s most complete medieval walled strongholds, offers time to absorb the journey beyond the bike. Leaving the city behind, the route softens into a more relaxed but equally captivating ride through the Occitanie region. HIRE BIKES: If you are booking with a hire bike we will hand your bike over on the afternoon prior to the first tour day. This will give you a chance to get familiar with the bike, make any adjustments, arrange your packing and not waste any time on the first day riding.
Day 1 An early morning shuttle carries you straight into France motorcycle riding at its best. Northern roads build confidence with spirited sweepers before tightening through the forested curves of the Ardennes. This is classic motorcycle touring France, smooth, engaging and immediately addictive.
Day 2 Heading south, the landscape opens into rolling countryside stitched together by flowing tarmac. Long bends and smooth sections define the ride to Bourges, where historic streets and a UNESCO Cathedral mark a perfect balance of culture and scenic motorbike routes.
Day 3 Central France shifts the tone. The Livradois Forez National Park delivers elevation, tighter sequences and forested ridgelines that demand precision. This stage deepens the France motorcycle adventure with more technical riding and a sense of remoteness on quiet, rewarding roads.
Day 4 A shorter ride today as you enter the Gorges du Tarn. Sheer rock walls, tunnels and overhangs create one of the most dramatic stretches of motorcycle touring France. Then comes the Millau Viaduct, vast and unforgettable, before rolling into Carcassonne for a spectacular finish to the day.
