South Africa is a land of striking contrasts, from wild coastlines and untouched wilderness to iconic natural wonders, world-class wildlife, and award-winning wines. With a year-round warm climate and diverse landscapes, it is the perfect destination for an unforgettable motorcycle adventure.
Your journey begins in Cape Town, where you’ll have a free day to explore the city or unwind after your flight. Take a guided city tour, visit the legendary Table Mountain, or explore the vibrant Khayelitsha Township. Once you collect your bike, the adventure starts with a scenic loop ride to the Cape of Good Hope, where two oceans meet, with a chance to visit the famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
From there, ride along the Garden Route into the Western Cape, stopping in charming towns like Montagu in the Little Karoo. Spend two nights in Oudtshoorn, known for its ostrich farms and dramatic landscapes. On your free day, enjoy a stunning loop ride over the Swartberg Pass.
A highlight of the tour is Addo Elephant National Park, a vast reserve home to elephant, rhinoceros, lion, buffalo and leopard. Enjoy a day off here with a game drive and the chance to spot South Africa’s iconic wildlife.
Continue to a private reserve in the Karoo for a two-night stay, including a sunset game drive and more opportunities to photograph the region’s diverse animals. Then head back to the coast, where long sandy beaches and tranquil lagoons await.
Before returning to Cape Town, spend a night in Arniston, a picturesque fishing village with lime washed, thatched cottages. Your final night is in Stellenbosch, a historic town on the banks of the Eerste River and one of South Africa’s earliest European settlements.
Back in Cape Town, enjoy a final evening watching the sun set behind Table Mountain, reflecting on a journey that is truly one of the world’s greatest motorcycle rides.
This Explorer Tour follows tarmac roads throughout, with a few hotel entrances on easy gravel. Optional gravel rides include the famous Swartberg and Prince Alfred’s Passes, offering extra adventure for those who want it.

All our hire bikes for Classic and European Explorer Tours are current model BMW’s complete with ABS, Heated Grips, Panniers, Top Box, Tank Bag, Inner bags for all boxes and a pre programmed BMW Navigator GPS included.

Motorcycles for this tour are supplied by our local BMW Travel Partner. They are BMW's equipped with ABS, heated grips and panniers. You are welcome to take your own GPS unit or you can rent one. HIRE BIKES: If you are booking with a hire bike we will hand your bike over on the afternoon prior to the first tour day. This will give you a chance to get familiar with the bike, make any adjustments, arrange your packing and not waste any time on the first day riding.
Day 1 Arrive in Cape Town and settle in before joining your fellow riders for a pre-tour briefing and welcome dinner. The adventure begins with great food, new friendships, and anticipation for the journey ahead.
Day 2 No riding today, but plenty to explore. Take a guided city tour, ascend Table Mountain for panoramic views, or visit the vibrant Khayelitsha Township. It’s a perfect day to soak in the culture and energy of South Africa’s most iconic city.
Day 3 head out on your first ride to the legendary Cape of Good Hope. Visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach and cruise the spectacular Chapmans Peak Drive, one of the most scenic coastal roads in the world.
Day 4 Ride into the heart of the Western Cape, passing dramatic landscapes and rolling vineyards on your way to Montagu, a charming town nestled in the Little Karoo.
Day 5 Enjoy a stunning ride along Route 62, South Africa’s answer to America’s Route 66. Arrive in Oudtshoorn, known for its ostrich farms and desert beauty, at the heart of the Garden Route.
Day 6 Take a day to relax, visit an ostrich farm or opt for a loop ride over the Swartberg Pass via the Meiringpoort Waterfalls. Whether you choose rest or more riding, the scenery and hospitality will not disappoint.
