Tour Overview
We fly into Athens on the first night, where your BMW GS will be waiting for you ready to roll the next day. That night, we have organised a welcome dinner, where you can enjoy traditional Greek hospitality and spend time getting to know your fellow travellers. A morning start and we quickly leave the bustle and chaos of Athens behind, heading south for the Peloponnese Peninsula. This is the land of legends, where Hercules fought the Nemean Lion, the Argonauts set sail in search of the Golden Fleece, and gods walked the earth. Now, it’s home to classical temples, Mycenean palaces, Byzantine cities and stunning roads around Mount Parnonas.
We head for Nafpilon which was once the capital of the Kingdom of Greece, positioned overlooking the Argolic Gulf of the Mediterranean, it is a stunning location and even the Greeks recognize that it’s the most beautiful of all mainland towns, with its numerous Venetian and Turkish buildings, twisting labyrinthine streets and a sophisticated atmosphere that’s a million miles from a tourist resort.
Two nights here provide a chance to wander and discover the old medieval town, the narrow cobblestone alleys and the neoclassical mansions with the Bougainvillea trees adorning their yards and balconies with numerous Turkish fountains along the way. At the centre of the old town is the Italianate Syntagma Square with its many important historical buildings. Looking out from the harbour is the Bourtzi, a Venetian fortress on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi.
Alternatively you could just enjoy riding around the peninsula with its amazing history visiting historical sights such the 3rd century Amphitheatre at Apidavros.
Our final day’s ride sees us head back to Athens to drop the bikes off before we enjoy dinner in the warmth of the capital.
Tremendous tour - back to the roots of Western civilisation. What's not to like?
