A relaxed tour yes, but with history that’s imparted by our very own fantastic Tour Leader Eugene Brookes. She is not only a splendid human (as all our Tour Leaders are 😍)  she’s also a very experienced tour guide for the Battlefields.

And while this tour is steeped in history, it will also be a chance to relax and enjoy the culture and cuisine of France and Belgium.

With low daily mileages and opportunities to unwind, Eugenie will tailor the experience to the group’s interests, including any personal visits to graves or memorials.

1918 marked the end of the Great War but it’s still remembered and commemorated by people from many continents around the world. The town of Ypres, Belgium is thought of as hallowed ground by many descendants of those men and women who crossed the Channel to fight and support those fighting against the enemy.

Each year, pilgrimages are made to honor the fallen, and every night, the buglers of the Ypres Fire Brigade gather beneath the Menin Gate Memorial to play the haunting tune of the ‘Last Post.’ The Battle of the Somme, known as the bloodiest in British History, claimed the lives of 60,000 British servicemen, marking a significant loss in a single battle.

You’ll visit The Thiepval Memorial which stands tall over the Somme Battlefields, commemorating more than 72,000 officers and men from the UK and South Africa who perished in the area with no known grave. 

We’ll stay two nights in Ypres and two near Albert, with excursions to the Battlefields, the Wellington Tunnels, Vimy Memorial, as well as attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, Ypres where personal tributes can be placed during the Ceremony.
